Stainless steel food box

These stainless steel food containers are made in Sweden by a company called AB Durinders Rostfria. The company, founded in the 1940s, has been producing these containers since 1955. Present-day production still uses the same methods as decades ago, just with somewhat more modern machines. The appearance of the boxes, too, has changed only little over the decades.

The food boxes are available in two sizes. The smaller box measures approximately 17.3 cm x 10.3 cm x 6.2 cm and the volume of its lower part up to the rim is half a liter. The larger box measures approximately 19.7 cm x 12.8 cm x 6.8 cm and the volume of its lower part is 0.7 liters. The boxes are made of strong steel and their lids fit tightly onto the bodies of the containers. The raw material comes from Finland and contains approx. 85–90% recycled steel (steel quality EN 1.4301, 18/10).

The lunch boxes have no moving parts that could break, so the sturdy boxes are an investment that will last for decades.

According to the manufacturer the boxes are also suitable for freezing and for use in the oven and, with certain restrictions, also for the microwave. According to the manufacturer, when using the container in a microwave oven, the lid should be removed and only the lower part with the food contents should be placed in the microwave. However, it is known that certain old microwave ovens are not suitable for metal containers. Therefore, the microwave's operating instructions should always be consulted before use. Similarly, when using the boxes in a conventional oven, the lids can usually be removed. The food boxes are dishwasher safe.

The food boxes have no seal. Consequently, the boxes have no parts that wear out, need replacement or could trap dirt underneath them. However, caution is advised when transporting and storing moist or liquid contents. With such contents the containers should not be tilted, otherwise the contents will leak.

Marks resulting from molding the metal as well as minor surface scratches on the products are normal byproducts of the manufacturing process and do not constitute quality defects. Similar marks will naturally appear over time with use. If, for any reason, there are more or somewhat deeper scratches than usual, the container is sold as B-grade at a slightly reduced price. Such minor cosmetic imperfections do not in any way affect the product's functionality.

Stainless steel products made in Europe are a rarity these days and we are therefore particularly pleased to have this quality product of Swedish origin in our product range. Stainless steel products have their price, but once purchased, they serve their users for a long time. They are further a good example of circular economy, with their high recycled content and full recyclability without any quality degradation.
