These stainless steel food containers are made in Sweden by a company called AB Durinders Rostfria. The company, founded in the 1940s, has been producing these containers since 1955. Present-day production still uses the same methods as decades ago, just with somewhat more modern machines. The appearance of the boxes, too, has changed only little over the decades.

The stainless steel box measures approximately 17.3 cm x 10.3 cm x 6.2 cm and its volume is half a liter. The box is made of strong steel and its lid fits tightly onto the body of the container. The box weighs approx. 310 g. The raw material comes from Finland and contains approx. 85–90% recycled steel (steel quality EN 1.4301, 18/10).

The lunch box has no moving parts that could break, so the sturdy box is an investment that will last for decades.

According to the manufacturer the box is also suitable for freezing and for use in the oven and, with certain restrictions, also for the microwave. According to the manufacturer, when using the container in a microwave oven, the lid should be removed and only the lower part with the food contents should be placed in the microwave. However, it is known that certain old microwave ovens are not suitable for metal containers. Therefore, the microwave's operating instructions should always be consulted before use. Similarly, when using the box in a conventional oven, the lid can usually be removed. The food box is dishwasher safe.

The best technique for closing the tight-fitting lid is to first place one of the lid’s shorter ends on the body of the container. After that you push the container body at the opposite end into the lid, while at the same time pressing the three side walls at this end of the container body slightly inwards.

The food box has no seal. Consequently, the box has no parts that wear out, need replacement or could trap dirt underneath them. However, caution is advised when transporting and storing moist or liquid contents. With such contents the container should not be tilted, otherwise the contents will leak.

Stainless steel products made in Europe are a rarity these days and we are therefore particularly pleased to have this quality product of Swedish origin in our product range.
